Irmy on red doggie bedMy sweet Irmy,

We said goodbye to you today, just a few days short of your 14th birthday. I know I've said all this to you in the last few weeks, but I hope you somehow know I'm writing this, and maybe you'll sing me a song in heaven. Remember how you used to sing? I hear you got kicked out of a daycare for it, the people thought you were growling! Andy and Joanie taught you to do it on command, it was the coolest trick I'd seen.

You and your sister were my first pit bull clients. I want to thank you for all your patience with me and for helping me to let go of any hesitations regarding your breed.

Irmy's sweet faceRemember the first time I had to put you in your kennel? I didn't know what you would do, so I put a leash on you! I'm pretty sure you laughed at me. Fast forward a few months and I'm pushing on your butt, "c'mon, Irmy! Move!!" And how about that time you and Ellie ran me into a tree! You two saw a cat, and off you went, dragging me along until I was slammed into a palm tree! Thank the doggy gods there was popcorn on that porch, you girls stopped to snack and I was able to catch up. Joanie was home that day, I was so embarrassed! Tried to hide the scratches on my knees. All the sleepovers at your house might have been a little nerve racking, but I had two fierce bullies to protect me. You have shown me so much over the years; my quintessential pit bull, and you are the reason the breed was long considered "America's family pet".

Irmy and her sister EllieAlways gentle and sweet, you seemed to know when people needed space or comfort, and you provided accordingly. You are my first example when someone speaks ignorantly about your breed. I'll never forget walks with you, watching you roll in the grass every few feet and laughing at the cars passing by, people looking out the window at the dog smiling, upside down, in the grass. The people who stopped their cars to get out and pet you because you looked so friendly and loving. Even all those times you woke me up at 3 in the morning to go out for a pee break. I will miss all of it. It breaks my heart to have to tell you goodbye, even though I know it's your time. I am so lucky to have had you in my life; my first pit bull who taught me everything about loving the breed with no reservations. You are the reason I can handle any dog. You gave me confidence I only pretended to have. Love you so much, sweet puppy. I'll see you in heaven, and we'll go for a walk and roll in the grass.

Your closest friend and pet sitter,

Hi, my name is Annette Filecci. I am a Miami native, one of the few! I have been pet-sitting in the Hollywood and Hallandale area for the past several years now, and I couldn't think of a better job for me. I love animals and have almost always had a pet around, from birds to fish to dogs, cats - even worms and snails - so I am very experienced with all kinds of pets!

I am married with three children and we have lived in East Hollywood for the past decade.
